Top Ivy League Universities in the USA

The US has a small group of “Ivy League” universities. Wondering what an Ivy League University is?  Ivy League universities are those educational institutes that enjoy the reputation for providing excellent education and attract top students.  These institutions are all private institutions and receive large endowments and generous amount of financial support from the alumni. Due to the large aid they receive, they also provide for sufficient amount of financial aid to the students making it less expensive than the state public colleges. Below is the list of top 8 Ivy League universities in the US:

Brown University:

Located in historic Providence, Rhode Island and founded in 1764, Brown University is the seventh-oldest college in the United States. Brown is an independent, coeducational Ivy League institution comprising undergraduate and graduate programs, plus the Alpert Medical School and the School of Engineering.Brown university is often considered to be the most liberal of the Ivy League schools. Located in Providence, Brown follows an open curriculum in which students craft their own plan of study. Brown has more of an undergraduate focus when compared to the other top universities.

Columbia University:

Columbia University was founded in 1754 as King's College by royal charter of King George II of England. It is the oldest institution of higher learning in the state of New York and the fifth oldest in the United States.  Columbia has extensive graduate programs—of its 25,000 students, over two-thirds are graduate students.  It’s location in upper Manhattan places it right in the bustle of New York City.

Cornell University:

Once called "the first American university" by educational historian Frederick Rudolph, Cornell University represents a distinctive mix of eminent scholarship and democratic ideals. Both a private university and the land-grant institution of New York State, Cornell University is the most educationally diverse member of the Ivy League. On the Ithaca campus alone nearly 20,000 students representing every state and 120 countries choose from among 4,000 courses in 11 undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools.

Dartmouth University:

Founded in 1769, Dartmouth is a member of the Ivy League and consistently ranks among the world's greatest academic institutions. Dartmouth has forged a singular identity as a strong undergraduate and graduate institution dedicated to teaching and research with Graduate Programs and three leading professional schools—the Geisel School of Medicine, Thayer School of Engineering, and the Tuck School of Business.

Duke University:

Home of the Blue Devils, Duke University has about 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students and a world-class faculty helping to expand the frontiers of knowledge. The university has a strong commitment to applying knowledge in service to society, both near its North Carolina campus and around the world.Located in Durham, North Carolina, Duke is one of the most prestigious and competitive universities in the south.

Harvard University:

Established in 1636, Harvard usually ranks #1 or #2 of all schools in the U.S. With an endowment around $35 billion, Harvard has more financial resources at its disposal than any other university in the world. The result is a world-class faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and free tuition for students from families with modest income. Princeton University:

Chartered in 1746, Princeton is the fourth-oldest college in the United States. Princeton is an independent, coeducational, nondenominational institution that provides undergraduate and graduate instruction in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and engineering.

Stanford University:

University of Pennsylvania:

Penn has a long and proud tradition of intellectual rigor and pursuit of innovative knowledge, begun by Benjamin Franklin in 1740. With nearly 12,000 undergraduates and a similar number of graduate students, Penn has a diverse and bustling urban campus.

Yale University:

Yale, with Princeton and Harvard, usually finds itself near the top of university rankings. Yale University comprises three major academic components: Yale College (the undergraduate program), the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the professional schools. In addition, Yale encompasses a wide array of centers and programs, libraries, museums, and administrative support offices. Approximately 11,250 students attend Yale.
