B.Com courses emerge as hot choices at DU
B.Com (Honours) and Economics (Honours) have emerged as the hot favorite courses at Delhi University (DU) this year, with large number of students from across the country seeking admission to these programmes.
Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) has received a total of 48,000 applications for the two courses till now. SRCC was in the news last year, for setting a cutoff of 100% for its BCom(Honours) course, owing to a huge number of applicants.
Sources from SRCC revealed that large number of students from Chennai have applied to the college this year. This is because Chennai region was the top scorer in CBSE board exams.
Hindu college is another popular destination among students seeking admission to the mentioned courses.
About 21 colleges participated in the recently held CATE (Combined Aptitude Test for English) exam with nearly 14000 candidates taking the exam. This shows that the course is still popular but has been overtaken by the demand of commerce courses.
St.Stephens College has declared the highest cut-off for English (honours) course this year.
However, the demand for science courses at the UG level has reduced, with many students dropping out to pursue professional courses. The changing trend could be attributed to Campus placements. Many students feel that they can get placed with a good job after completing a commerce course.
