Calcutta University students to pay Rs 500 for reassessment of answer sheets

Calcutta University is charging Rs 500 for reassessment of each answer script though as per RTI (Right to Information) maximum fee should be Rs 10.

However, controller of examination expressed that the rule is applicable to all bachelor and master degree students. The students will also be given a copy of the assessed answer sheets.

A Adhikari cited from Section VII of the RTI Act that if a college or university decides to provide the information on payment of additional fee at the cost of providing the information, the State Public Information Officer or Central Public Information Officer must intimate the person making the request along with – 1) details of additional fee representing the cost of providing information as determine by him along with the calculations done to derive the amount corresponding to the fee under sub-section (1), requesting him to deposit that fee and the period overriding between the dispatch of the mentioned intimation and payment of fee shall be exempted in order to calculate the period of 30 days referred to in that sub section 2) information related to his or her right with respect to assess the decision as to the amount of fees charged or the type of access offered, including the details of the appellate authority, process, time limit and any other forms.
