IGNOU issues Public Notice to all Institutions for curbing ragging

The Director of Distance Education Council IGNOU Dr Nalini Lele has issued public notice on 21 Feb 2012 to all Universities/Institutions for curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational Institutions. The regulations are compulsory and have to take the necessary steps for implementing by all the Universities/Institutions that are available on the UGC website. It is also applicable to the Universities/Institutions offering programs through distance mode.

As per the law ragging is a criminal offence and that UGC has framed “UGC Regulations on curbing the menace of ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009”, in order to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging in Indian Universities/Colleges/Institutions.

The Distance Education Council is the statutory authority under IGNOU Act 1985 for promotion, coordination and maintenance of standards of Open University and Distance Education systems in the country.IGNOU is the largest university in the world. It also hosts the Secretariats of the SAARC Consortium on Open and Distance Learning (SACODiL) and the Global Mega Universities Network (GMUNET) initially supported by UNESCO.

Student’s /Parents/ Individuals in grief due to ragging associated incidents can be contacted at the DEC.
