State government to introduce Private University Bill in WB assembly

Chief Minister West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee stated that a Private University Bill would be presented in the West Bengal assembly in a day or two for establishing higher education institutes by the private sector in the state.

The statement was made at a function of South Point High School which registers largest number of students in the country.

Chief Minister offered a 4.2 acre plot near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass to the schools as it was facing a space crunch. The school has been offered a plot to build a college and then a university.

South Point is premier institute with 20-25 lakh alumni all across the world. The school was established by Satikanta Guha and his wife Pritilata in 1954. The school started with 16 students and now owes the highest number of students in the world in a short span of 30 years.

On this occasion, trustee of South Point Education Society announced a Priyamvada Birla Memorial Scholarship for undergraduate students in medical, engineering or technical colleges within the state. A scholarship amount of Rs 25 lakh will be granted to 2 students each year.
