The University of Tokyo is seeking collaborations with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to attract more Indian students to study in Japan. The collaboration by the University aims at attracting Indian students to pursue their studies in the Science and Technology and research field.

Talking about the collaboration, officials from the University of Tokyo revealed that, 60 students from around the globe are invited for the full scholarship and presently there are no Indian students applying for the same.

The collaboration is expected to benefit both the countries and the IGNOU officials also expressed that the collaboration would provide the technical staff of the university an opportunity to be trained at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is responsible for technical co-operation component of Japan's bilateral official development assistance programme.

The collaboration is expected to make Japan the destination of higher studies for Indian students. Currently, 1.4 lakh Indian students are studying in Japan.
