The countdown for Uttar Pradesh Board examinations has started, however, the examination centers are yet to be finalized by the board’s education officials. While the class X and XII theory examinations are yet to begin on March 12, 2013, practical examinations for the same will be conducted from January 21 to February 20, 2013.

A total of 124 schools have been listed out by the district committee to be established as examination centers. In a radical change from the previous years, government and aided institutions are being prioritized over self-financing colleges. Only 21 self-financing colleges were chosen out of the 124 designated examination centers.  Dissatisfied with the selection process, the state’s education-lobby appealed to the High Court last month to alter the decision. As a result, the High Court notified the director of secondary education to take make the necessary changes. However, the issue is yet to be resolved.

The delay in setting up centers will affect the students. As per official rules, examination center lists need to be declared a month prior to the examination. Teachers are also suffering as they have not been notified about, which center they need to go to as invigilators for practical exams. In order to keep the entire process free of bias, the teaching staff of a particular school is sent as examiners, to another school to conduct the practical examinations. Till now, schools have not received any information or clarification from the board.

As per a source, the final list of examination centers was sent to the director of secondary education on Monday, January 7, 2013. His final approval is awaited. Meanwhile, other preparations for the exam are underway.
