Ever After: A Cinderella Story

Put me in front of the tele, with a great movie, and you've managed to lose me, quite decisively. There's nothing more enchanting than a tale about love and there's nothing i'd put above a film about fairy tale romance in the "once upon a time" times.

So when i watched this film by Andy Tennet, again today, after about ten years (and i'm NOT kidding) there was still something magical about it! Called Ever After: A Cinderella Story, this film starring Drew Barrymore, Angelica Hudson and Dougray Scott *sigh! whataman!*, it was just as magical for me as it was then. Even more, in fact! Because i finally understood a lot of the little historical intricacies that this film has woven into the story.

Its less of a fairy tale and more of a combination of social commentary, historical references and romance. There is the original storyline running through the films and the manner in which the tale unfolds is quite interesting for viewers of all ages. Children will recognise the fairy tale and adults will see the many historical aspects that have been added to the film.

The customs of the court and the little things that magic filled in for in the folk tale are all taken over, in this version, by real people! What is more surprising is that the marketability of the film has been so well thought of that though the producers have tried their level best to stick to the language of the times and the demaenour and all the rest of the little things that add a touch of 'reality' (if i might call it that) to the story.

The camera movement, and the visual feel of the film, on the whole, is really very absorbing to see. People are just reeled in by the locations and the medieval feel of every shot! Personally, i love Drew Barrymore in this version (set in France, by the way) and there's nothing to not love about Dougray Scott.

So the next time you want to watch something light and yet moving, pick this one! It's great!

I agree. All movies should have happy endings .Nothing like a touch of romance to it
