The Thomas Crown Affair
Pierce Brosnan has known how to be the suave bad boy. And he's basically made it look so easy and charming with all the Bond movies, that now, he has it down to an art. There's nothing more sensational than watching this man in action in the Thomas Crown Affair, because without a license to kill and all that saucy agent stuff, he's still the man of every woman's dreams!
With Rene Russo (once model and looker of the first grade), this 1999 adaptation of the 1968 film with Steve McQueen is one of the finest films i have ever watched. What do you get when you put a sophisticated "finance geek" and a art heist together with a sizzling investigator and a fine story? The answer is plain: a Masterpiece!
Centered around the wealthy Thomas Crown (Brosnan), the story follows the theft of priceless Monet from New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and the pursuit of the thief who turns out to be Mr. Wealthy Banker Man. The services of Catherine Banning (Russo) become the lifeline of the Police Department entrusted to find the painting and nab the man behind the thievery. The pair fall in love. The prime suspect and the investigator.
Will she let him get away with his crime when she knows he's done it? What she pick duty to herself (yes, being happy is one of those things *epiphany*) or duty to her employers?
John McTiernan, the man that makes the good ones, has directed this film with such a brilliant eye for detail and effect! There's never a dull moment and every little sizzle of chemistry between the leads has been artfully caught on camera. Though very, intensely different from the 1968 movie, this film has all the makings of a classic. The music, the locations, the angles and the actors make this 1999 movie unforgettable!
Watch it one way or the other and be amazed by the wiles of Thomas Crown, fugitive from justice.
