"ITS COMPLICATED"

..............................................................

Bollywood movies are synonymous with candy floss romance . . .

If there is a college, there has to be a handsome hunk in it who meets the prettiest lass in the world and after the audience has its share of lover’s tiffs and a generous dose of melodrama (read family opposition) with a lecherous villain or a scheming vamp making things all the more difficult for the love birds, both of them end up together because we as a nation are suckers for happy endings!

But all this is a far cry from the reality. Things aren’t so straightforward and uncomplicated for the facebook generation- a fact made evident by more and more relationship statuses reading “it’s complicated”

So where in exactly lies the complication?

I’d say in the simple truth that today’s youth wants relationships not love!

No matter how clichéd it may sound, none of us can actually figure out the whole concept of love and all the paraphernalia that tags along with it.

In an age of instant gratification, it is a relationship that we all want. Whether there is love or not has more or less become irrelevant.

Anya, a 2nd year student in DU has been in relationship for the past 3 years. Due to time constraints, she and her boyfriend scarcely meet and have to make do with 2-3 phone calls a week. Things have become awkward between them and they have drifted apart  but its just a matter of having gotten used to each other that is preventing them from calling their “so called relationship” off.

Prashant, a 3rd years student broke off with his long time girlfriend a few months back and got into a relationship soon after that he now regrets. “ I was feeling a void in my life and was in the rebound phase and now i don’t know how to untangle  myself”

So while he’s still figuring that one out, he continues to fake his emotions every time he meets his current girlfriend.

These aren’t isolated cases. These along with many more complications of even greater magnitude define what a “love life” embodies for generation now!

It is not a generalisation but most relationships today are based on a number of factors among which love figures nowhere. Ok maybe a lesser version of it at number 10 or something!

Call it a flippant attitude or just a sense of dissatisfaction- relationships are short lived nowadays and those which aren’t are because both the parties derive some sort of mutual social acceptability by being with each other which is hard to let go or because it becomes a relationship of convenience or maybe it is simply lust based. It may also be a matter of having gotten used to someone so much that the fear of a massive change is tough to deal with and that compels those involved to carry forward a dead loveless relationship.

Anyway, it is sad and complicated to the power infinity.

Oh yes, of course there is a very small category of relationships which aren’t short lived and that is because it comprises of  two madly in love individuals who were foolish enough to overlook all troubles and think the world of each other!

The sad bit is that in the world we are living in, people belonging to this category are far outnumbered by those belonging to others making them the isolated ones, the almost extinct ones!

But thank god for small mercies!

At least they help in keeping the faith alive!

i ve rarely known of any college romances that have survived after college. guys rarely care for a female's feelings now a days. they just want an arm candy whom they can take around and show off, and once college gets over so does their "love" for the girl.

Nothing complicated ! Put it simply ,Relationships based on Love always last whereas those that depend on other factors .........can hardly be called relationships. Those are just compromises one makes in life
