Several thousand candidates from all over India appeared on Day 3 of the Common Admission Test ’2013 (CAT ’2013) on Saturday, October 19, 2013.
As per various students from test centers in Greater Noida, Noida and New Delhi, the Reading Comprehension (RC) segment was little lengthy since all the 3 passages consisted of around 850-900 words.
CAT ’2013 has 2 sections-Quantitative Ability (QA) and Data Interpretation (DI) as well as Verbal Ability (VA) and Logical Reasoning (LR).
Few students claimed that the DI and Quant sections were calculation based although not difficult. LR happened to be easy and VA included all the topics. Few students found RC to be complicated as they found it time-consuming to complete reading all 3 passages which were descriptive, with 1 relating to Recession. The questions were mostly direct. The Level of Difficulty (LOD) was II for Quant, as per students.
As per most students, the QA and DI sections on Day 3 were moderate in terms of difficulty, although they were calculation intensive.
The QA section had most questions from Functions and Geometry as around 12 questions were taken from such topics. The remaining questions were framed from known topics including Trigonometry, Arithmetic, Mensuration, Functions, Time Speed & Distance, etc.
Many students did not get questions from Number System in their question sets. Questions on Bar Diagram and Pie Chart featured in the DI section. Students claimed that this section was very easy.
The VA and LR were average in terms of difficulty level although lengthy, as per many students.
On Day 3, the first session included topics in VA such as Para Jumble, RC, Error Correction in Paragraph, Identifying Out of Context Sentences, Vocabulary and Fill in the Blanks. Passages of RC were lengthy although the questions happened to be direct. As per experts, Vocabulary was slightly difficult. Candidates may expect cutoffs in Quant to be lower than the VA and LR sections, the experts added.
As per sources, the LR section happened to be easy, consisting of questions on blood relations and circular arrangements.
CAT ’2013 began on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 and will be conducted over a 20 day period till Monday, November 11, 2013, in 40 cities in India.
