CAT 2013 concludes: Overall Analysis

The Common Admission Test 2013 (CAT 2013) concluded on Monday, November 11, 2013. CAT 2013 began on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 and was conducted over a 20 day period in 40 cities in India, which is an increase from 36 cities in 2012.

The Common Admission Test, popularly known as CAT, is an all-India test conducted by the premier Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as an entrance examination for the management programs offered by its business schools (B-schools) as well as other top Master of Business Administration (MBA) schools.

There are 2 sections in CAT 2013 - Quantitative Ability (QA) and Data Interpretation (DI) as well as Verbal Ability (VA) and Logical Reasoning (LR).

Day 1 October 16:

There were no surprise elements on Day 1 of the test in terms of examination pattern, which was similar to the pattern of CAT 2012. The level of difficulty was moderate to tough. For the complete analysis please click here

Day 2 October 18:

The Verbal section was tough with lengthy passages. The LR section was tough and calculation intensive. The QA section was moderate in terms of difficulty compared to the Verbal section. Read more

Day 3 October 19:

DI and Quant sections were calculation based although not difficult. LR was easy and VA included all the topics. Few students found Reading Comprehension (RC) to be complicated as they found it time-consuming. Read more

Day 4 October 20:

The Quant section was higher in difficulty compared to the Verbal section. The RC section was easy. Read more

Day 5 October 21:

Both QA and LR sections were calculation intensive and time-consuming. The Verbal and DI sections happened to be easy. Read more

Day 6 October 23:

The QA section happened to be calculation intensive as well as time consuming. However, VA was moderate in terms of difficulty. Some students claimed that the DI section was extremely difficult and time-consuming. Read more

Day 7 October 24:

The paper was the easiest when compared to the papers of the first 6 days. As per many candidates, although the QA section was time consuming, it was easy. The students claimed that the DI section was easy. VA section was easy or average. LR section was time consuming although easy. Read more

Day 8 October 25:

QA and DI sections were moderate. The VA section was easy with many students being able to attempt almost all questions. The candidates claimed that the Day 8 questions of LR were calculation intensive, hence time consuming. Read more

Day 9 October 26:

The QA section was moderate in terms of difficulty.  Most candidates claimed that the DI section was easy, the VA section was average in terms of difficulty and the LR section was easy. Read more

Day 10 October 28:

The QA section on Day 10 was moderate in terms of difficulty. Although the students claimed the DI section to be easy, there was an incomplete question in the section. The questions in the VA section were easy. LR section on Day 10 was calculation intensive, hence time consuming. Read more

Day 11 October 29:

The QA section was average in terms of difficulty.  Students claimed that the DI section was easy with questions on Bar Diagrams and Pie Charts. The VA section on Day 11 was mostly easy; with few tricky questions from the RC section. The LR section was easy. Read more

Day 12 October 30:

The QA section was moderate in terms of difficulty while the DI section was calculation intensive, hence time consuming.  VA section was easy and the LR section was very easy. Read more

Day 13 October 31:

The QA section was moderate in terms of difficulty, with very few finding it little difficult. The DI section was easy. VA section was average while the LR section on Day 13 was easy and could be solved fast.  Read more

Day 14 November 1:

QA section was moderate in terms of difficulty while the the DI section was easy. The VA section was average and the LR section was easy. Read more

Day 16 November 6:

Candidates who wrote the examination on Day 16 claimed that the question pattern had soft Verbal and a bit difficult Quant questions. Read more

Day 17 November 7

While the Day 16 of the test had found that the question pattern had soft Verbal and a bit difficult Quant questions, Day 17 continued on the same theme. Read more

Day 18 November 8

Candidates mentioned that the Quant section was very tough to crack while the level of the VA section was relatively easy. Read more

The QA section was moderate in terms of difficulty with no surprise elements in question pattern. Read more
