CAT '2013 Day 2 Analysis

Several students across India appeared on Day 2 of the Common Admission Test ’2013 (CAT ’2013) today on October 18, 2013.

CAT ’2013 began on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. CAT ’2013 will be conducted over a 20 day period till Monday, November 11, 2013, in 40 cities in India.

As per few students who wrote the test from Delhi test centers on Day 2, the Verbal section was tough with lengthy passages. Moreover, the Logical Reasoning section was tough as well as it was calculation intensive. The Quantitative section was moderate in terms of difficulty compared to the Verbal section, the students added.

CAT ’2013 has 2 sections-Quantitative Ability (QA) and Data Interpretation (DI) as well as Verbal Ability (VA) and Logical Reasoning (LR).

Few students claimed that the Verbal section was tougher than Quant unexpectedly. A passage was exceptionally lengthy and a minimum of 4 LR questions were very difficult, students added.

A student claimed that Functions and Algebra formed a big chunk of Quant questions. DI was moderate. However, there were no “Fill in the blank” questions in VA, as per the student.

Question Types:

As per students, QA and DI were moderate in terms of difficulty. QA consisted of mainly Functions and Algebra related questions. The remaining questions were from the familiar areas of Trigonometry, Time, Speed and Distance, Arithmetic, Mensuration, Functions, etc.

Just like Day 1, on Day 2 too Permutation and Combination did not feature in question sets of several students.  There were questions relating to Caselets and Pie Chart in DI, which many students claimed were average in terms of difficulty.

The students claimed that VA and LR questions were tough and lengthy. VA questions covered Para Jumble, Reading Comprehension, Error Correction in Paragraph, Vocabulary and Identifying out of Context sentences. “Fill in the blank” questions were absent in VA section for several students. Although the passages were lengthy, the questions were mostly direct. The Verbal section was difficult and LR questions were complicated and lengthy, as per experts.

As per sources, there were a larger number of students writing the test on Day 2 of CAT ’2013, compared to Day 1 of the examination.
