CAT 2014 eligibility criteria, important dates

Published On: 04 Aug 2014 | Last Updated On: 04 Aug 2014

The registration process of the Common Admission Test 2014 (CAT 2014) is all set to start from Wednesday, August 6 and will continue for 56 days till 11.59 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Candidates aspiring to appear for CAT 2014 need to take note of the eligibility criteria for the same. The details of CAT 2014 eligibility are provided below.

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), which will be 45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD)/Differently-abled (DA) categories or possess equivalent qualification.

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree will be calculated based on the practice followed by the institute from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the institute from where they have obtained the bachelor’s degree. In case the institute does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.

Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting Results can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the program provisionally, only if they submit a certificate latest by Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from the principal/registrar of their institute (issued on or before June 30, 2015), stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.

The IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process. For list of equivalent qualification, detail on reservation, etc., please click here.

No change in the category will be considered after the closure of the registration window. Moreover, relevant certificates have to be uploaded at the time of CAT 2014 online applications.
