The Common Admission Test 2014 (CAT 2014) examinees will get 30 more minutes to complete their papers, since the total number of questions will also be more for this year’s examination. CAT 2014, the entrance test for admission into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other premier business schools (B-schools) in India, will be conducted on Sunday, November 16 and Saturday, November 22, 2014.
According to officials of IIM Indore, earlier 140 minutes were assigned to CAT test-takers to complete their paper, which has gone up to 170 minutes for CAT 2014. IIM Indore, which was the convener of CAT 2013, will be conducting CAT 2014 as well. There will be two sections in CAT 2014 - Quantitative Ability (QA) and Data Interpretation (DI) as well as Verbal Ability (VA) and Logical Reasoning (LR). Going forward, candidates need to solve 50 questions from each of the sections of CAT, instead of the earlier 30 questions, the officials added.
The new feature will enable candidates to allocate time accordingly to complete any section of their preference, based on their capability as well as convenience. If needed, students may shift from one section to another and come back to the section as well. As per the earlier system, candidates were required to solve the sections in serial order, within stipulated time limits.
The CAT 2014 will be conducted in four sessions at 354 examination centers spread across 99 cities. The result is expected to be announced in the third week of December, 2014. The registration process will take place from Wednesday, August 6 to Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The renowned multinational firm Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) will be the test administration partner of the IIMs for the online CAT 2014. Last year, the responsibility was with test administration firm Prometric.
Several other changes have been introduced in the CAT examination this year. IIM Indore has discontinued purchase of offline vouchers. The tutorial which was made available before start of examination will not be available this time. The CAT conducting body has advised candidates to do the tutorials from the website well in advance. Candidates will have to make the payment for registration fee through online mode only, which includes credit card and debit card or through net banking.
CAT 2013 was conducted from Wednesday, October 16 to Monday, November 11, 2013 and the Results were declared on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. A few thousand test-takers of CAT 2013 had submitted complaints to the IIMs stating that there were discrepancies in the CAT 2013 Results. Disgruntled test-takers were seeking a re-evaluation of CAT 2013 Results. Such candidates had moved various Indian courts regarding the disclosure of raw scores and about the normalization process of evaluation of CAT examinations. RTIs were filed as well.
