The online registration and application submission services of the Common Admission Test 2014 (CAT 2014) will remain temporarily suspended from 8 pm on Sunday, September 28 to 11 am on Monday, September 29, 2014, according to information available at the official website. The disruption will be due to the scheduled site maintenance activities, adds the website.
The registration process for CAT 2014 started on Wednesday, August 6 and will continue for 56 days till 11.59 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Candidates can register for CAT 2014 from the official CAT 2014 website - www.iimcat.ac.in during the 56-day registration window.
CAT is the entrance test for admission into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other premier business schools (B-schools) in India. The examination will be conducted on Sunday, November 16 and Saturday, November 22, 2014 (forenoon and afternoon sessions on both days). The result is expected to be announced in the third week of December, 2014.
Registering for CAT 2014 is a three-step process:
- Registration to get User ID and Password for the examination
- Login to CAT 2014 website with system generated user ID and password
- Fill CAT 2014 application form, make online payment and submit
Candidates need to obtain a user ID and password to create a user profile, which is necessary to complete the registration and will be applicable throughout the examination process.
Candidates aspiring to appear for CAT 2014 can also apply for the six new IIMs, which are expected to be set up in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Hence, CAT 2014 applicants can opt for all the 19 IIMs.
Currently, there are 13 IIMs in the country offering 3,335 seats for management programs. The new IIMs, allocated in the Union Budget 2014, will be functional from the 2015-16 academic session, according to the Government of India directive. Hence CAT 2014 will cover admissions for the Postgraduate Programs (PGPs) of the soon-to-be established IIMs as well. Once the new IIMs start functioning, more than 21% increase in the total number of IIM seats are expected.
Candidates may select up to three cities as their choices for taking CAT 2014. However, the city allocated will be based on center and node availability. The information will be communicated in the admit cards. Candidates will not be allowed to select the same city for more than one preference.
