CAT 2014 registrations begin; key instructions for aspirants

The online registration process of the Common Admission Test 2014 (CAT 2014) has started earlier today, that is, Wednesday, August 6 and will continue for 56 days till 11.59 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The registration link was enabled today at 10 am. CAT is the entrance test for admission into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other premier business schools (B-schools) in India.

Before the candidates register, they need to:

  • Check their eligibility for CAT 2014 by referring to the eligibility document on the website
  • Ensure they have a valid as well as unique email ID and mobile number
  • Candidates need to note that “*” (asterisk) indicates a mandatory field. The boxes marked with this symbol must be filled in or they will not be allowed to submit their applications
  • Gather all information for filling the form including educational history, mark-sheets for Classes X, XII, degree, diploma), work experience, relevant certificates to upload, scanned images of passport-sized photo and signature as well as the list of the IIM programs for which they are applying

Candidates can register for CAT 2014 from the official CAT 2014 website - www.iimcat.ac.in during the 56-day registration window.  It is a three-step process as follows.

Step 1: Registration to get User ID and Password for CAT 2014 -

On the website candidates need to click on ‘Register Now’ to start the registration process and create the user profile. For step by step instructions of the process, please click here.

Within minutes of submitting the registration form, candidates will receive a user ID on the registered email ID from the administrator with the subject line CAT 2014 Login Details. Candidates have to ensure that they check their mailbox immediately and that it is not considered as spam mail. They will also receive the login password as an sms on the registered mobile number from sender LMIIMCAT. Using these credentials, candidates have to log in as “Existing User” to complete the application for CAT 2014 by clicking on the link given in the email. They may also login from the CAT website.

Step 2: Login to CAT 2014 website with system generated user ID and password -

Using the system-generated user ID and password received, candidates can login as “Existing User” on the website and fill the CAT 2014 application form. In the future, if the password is forgotten, candidates may click on the Forgot Password button on the "Existing User" login window. The new password will be sent in an email and not as an sms.

Step 3: Fill CAT 2014 application form, make online payment and submit -

The application form is categorized into five sections, namely, Personal Details, Academics, Work Experience, Program and Payment. The application need not be completed at once - candidates can revisit the form several times. Candidates can save and exit the form any number of times to edit and complete later or Save & Continue each section till the application is submitted. However, if the mandatory information is not filled or the required certificates are not uploaded, the candidate will not be allowed to continue. Once the last section of online payment is completed, the application will be considered as complete, after which the candidate will receive a confirmation mail. Post this, changes to any information provided on the application form is not possible. However, candidates may print or save the form from the website.

Note: Candidates may select up to three cities for taking the CAT 2014 examination. However, the city allocated will be based on centre and node availability. This information will be communicated on the admit card. Candidates will not be allowed to select the same city for more than one preference.

Candidates under the General and Other Backward Classes Non Creamy Layer (OBC NCL) categories will be charged Rs 1600 while those under the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Persons with Disabilities/Differently-abled (SC, ST, PWD/DA) categories will be charged Rs 800. The final amount will also include applicable additional charges. It is mandatory to select the I Agree checkbox in the Declaration section before proceeding to the payment gateway by clicking on Submit and Pay. Post successful transaction of the payment, applicants will be redirected to the CAT 2014 website. A payment successful message will be displayed on the screen along with the Payment Transaction Number.

Candidates will also receive a confirmation email stating the successful submission of the CAT 2014 application within a few minutes. The email will also contain communication on additional details such as admit card download window.

When candidates log into the CAT website as an "Existing User", the Application Summary window will have two tabs -

  • Application Summary: Read only view of the details you have entered
  • Download Application Form: Download the Application summary to save or print

Help Desk: If the candidates do not receive the confirmation emails or have any other query they can call the Candidate Help Desk at 1800-2100-151. They should have their User ID and/or Payment Transaction Number details ready for reference. Candidates may also refer to the registration video or the FAQs available at the website.

CAT 2014 will be conducted on Sunday, November 16 and Saturday, November 22, 2014 (forenoon and afternoon sessions on both days). The result is expected to be announced in the third week of December, 2014.
