The online registration and application submission process of the Common Admission Test 2014 (CAT 2014) has reopened just for one day today, that is, from 00.00 hours to 23.59 hours on Friday, October 10, 2014. The one-day extension has been granted by the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) to make up for the technical glitches faced by candidates towards the end of the earlier scheduled registration window. IIM Indore is the conducting body of CAT 2014.

Candidates can register for CAT 2014 from the official CAT 2014 website - www.iimcat.ac.in. For any query, candidates can call the Candidate Help Desk at 1800-2100-151.

The registration process for CAT 2014 had started on Wednesday, August 6 and was scheduled to continue for 56 days till 11.59 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. However, the registrations were temporarily suspended from 8 pm on Sunday, September 28 to 11 am on Monday, September 29, 2014. The disruption was due to the scheduled site maintenance activities, according to the website.

The decision to extend the registration window by one day was taken by IIM Indore on the basis of the emails received from disgruntled aspirants, who voiced their concern with the CAT authorities relating to various technical problems such as problems in internet connection, net banking transaction, etc. Hence, the institute has extended the facility so that no aspirants miss the opportunity to appear for CAT 2014. The extended facility is open to all candidates, as per IIM Indore officials.

Registrations for CAT 2014 have come down to a new low, although the number of seats in the IIMs has increased. Around 1,89,759 candidates had registered for CAT 2014 till September 30. Around 1.94 lakh candidates had registered for the examination last year, which was also a seven-year low, down by around 33% compared to 2008.

Candidates aspiring to appear for CAT 2014 can also apply for the six new IIMs (outside the existing 13), which are expected to be set up in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Around 90 non-IIM business schools (B-schools) are expected to utilize CAT scores for admission this year, compared to around 150 just a few years ago.

CAT 2014 will be conducted on Sunday, November 16 and Saturday, November 22, 2014 (forenoon and afternoon sessions on both days). The result is expected to be announced in the third week of December, 2014.
