The Indore High Court (HC) has directed Prometric Testing Private Limited to release the raw scores of the disgruntled test-takers of the Common Admission Test 2013 (CAT 2013) to the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). The HC has also directed the IIMs to provide an explanation of the normalization as well as scoring method of CAT 2013, as demanded by the petitioners. The IIMs and Prometric have been granted two weeks to provide the information. Prometric was the partner agency of the IIMs for CAT 2013 while IIM Indore was the convener of the examination.
The direction was passed by the HC recently in response to petitions filed by candidates who have challenged the CAT 2013 Results citing discrepancies. Similar cases were filed in the courts of Kolkata, Delhi, Madras and Allahabad. Other than access to raw scores and an explanation of the normalization method, the candidates had sought a re-evaluation of CAT 2013 Results.
CAT is one of the most prestigious examinations in India for admission into the IIMs and other premier management institutes. CAT 2013 was conducted from Wednesday, October 16 to Monday, November 11, 2013. The Results of the examination were declared on Tuesday, January 14, 2014.
In a bid to improve the overall examination experience for the candidates, some major changes have been introduced in the CAT 2014 examination strategy and pattern. According to experts, the changes were made due to the alleged discrepancies in the Results of last year’s examination.
The equating/scaling process will be announced on the CAT 2014 website www.iimcat.ac.in prior to the examination, as per the website. CAT 2014 will be conducted on Sunday, November 16 and Saturday, November 22, 2014 (forenoon and afternoon sessions on both days). The result is expected to be announced in the third week of December, 2014. IIM Indore will once again be the convener of CAT 2014.
