The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore will be conducting the Common Admission Test (CAT) in two days, consisting of four sessions overall. The CAT 2014 will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2014 and Saturday, November 22, 2014. The CAT examination is conducted for taking admission to various management courses offered at the IIMs and other top B-schools in India.
The CAT entrance exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT) now. While registering, students can choose their CAT test centers which are set up in 99 cities in the country with 354 test sites. The pattern of CAT exam is designed in such a way that it evaluates the candidates’ management aptitude. It tests their communication and analytical skills. From this year, the duration of the examination has been increased to 170 minutes from the existing limit of 140 minutes.
Students who hold a bachelor’s degree with 50% marks are eligible to appear for the CAT entrance. Candidates who belong to the reserved categories are given 5% relaxation of the minimum marks. Those appearing for their final undergraduate examinations can also choose to write the CAT aptitude test.
The purchase of offline vouchers has been discontinued from this year and all the candidates have to make registration fee payment through online modes only by credit card, debit card or through net banking. After submission of application, candidates will be permitted to download their admit cards from 16.10.2014 onwards till their exam date. For example, if the candidate is appearing for the test on 16.11.2014, then she/he can download the admit card only up to 16.11.2014 (forenoon or afternoon session) according to her/his slot.
Candidates will be given the option to select 3 test cities in the order of preference and hence need not rush to block slots and sites in the initial registration days. As far as possible, candidates will be given their preferred first city across the four sessions on a random basis; if not possible, and then the second and the third preferred city will be allotted.
The pattern of IIM CAT exam is divided into two sections: Section1 – Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation; Section 2 – Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability. Questions in each section, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning have been increased to 50 in each section from the existing 30 questions.
The candidates have the flexibility for devoting more or less times to each section according to their ability and they can switch over from one section to another section for the duration of the examination unlike last year. Tutorial to understand the format of the examination will not be available before the start of the examination. Candidates are advised to do the tutorials, from the website well in advance.
Moreover, this year there is no provision to reschedule the exam. The exam date, session slot and venue will be assigned to the candidates based on the availability. Also cancellation/refund will not be allowed under any circumstances. Even if the candidate does not take the exam or fails to appear for the exam at the scheduled location, the fees will not be refunded.
