CBSE to now assess students for values

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to add value education to the curriculum in a bid to prepare students to live in the world of diversity.

CBSE Class X and XII board exams will henceforth give 5% weightage in each subject to value education questions integrated with the context. The board will be following an interdisciplinary approach that will entwine the context of the subject with values. 5 marks value based question will be asked in a 100 mark paper, while 3-4 marks question will be asked for a 70-90 marks paper reported the officials from the board.

The board has also asked the schools to pick up relevant questions from the question bank to incorporate in Class IX and XI end of term exam in every major subject. Decisions on finalising this proposal will be made in a month's time reported the officials from the board.

Most schools are welcoming the board's suggestion and added, it is important for students to learn ethics and values at school level even though most schools are already assessing the values in students in the formative assessments.
