The MSBSHSE (Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and higher Secondary Education) will reduce the weightage of marks scored in Maths subject in class IX and X from the present 150 marks to 100. The revision in marks weightage will be made effective for class IX from the academic session of 2012-13 and for class X from the following year.
The sources from the board revealed that the 1st batch of class IX will take the Maths exam for 100 marks to be held in March 2013. The same batch will appear for class X board exams in February 2014 for 100 marks Maths paper. But students taking class X Board exams in February 2013 will appear for 150 marks Maths paper.
The decision to change the marks weightage has been taken by the state government to become at par with the CBSE exam pattern. The decision will help state government in resolving problems such as ‘best five’ calculations which had created disagreement.
The new 100 marks Maths paper would include a written exam for geometry and algebra each of 40 marks respectively. Internal assessment will carry 20 marks. 2.5 hours will be allotted to students for writing 80 marks question paper.
The local educationist expressed that the board has revised the marks but syllabus is still the same. So now students will have to study the entire syllabus for lesser marks which may hamper students’ time table for preparing for the exams.
