A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS), Deralakatte was established in 1985 with the objective of making available up-to-date training facilities to become dental professionals and to help meet the coutry's growing health-care requirements. The college is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and is recognised by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The Institute offers Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctoral training facility. The is also an affiliate of Okoyama University Dental School, Japan and is among the handful of elite institutions outside the UK to be recognised as a centre for training for specific courses by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburg, England.

The ABSMIDS campus is set amidst the serene and salubrious locale at Deralakatte, 12 Kms. from Mangalore city. It is situated in the Medical Sciences Complex, where it has access to the most modern clinical facilities of the Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital.
