Amrita School of Medicine (ASM), Kochi was established in 2002 by Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Amma. The school offers the best education in an environment that supports the practice of new skills as well as an individual student's capacity to learn and serve. A unique emphasis on understanding and compassion in every action is the focal point, and this nurtures the student's intellectual and personal growth. The MBBS degree is a five and a half year program in Medicine, including a one year internship. The curriculum is based on the directives of the Medical Council of India. Clinical exposure begins in the second year, with classes conducted by clinical specialists emphasizing the relevance of basic sciences to clinical practices.
The school shares the campus with the AIMS Hospital and meets international standards. The school tower is 12 storeys tall with a total floor area of 120,000 sq.ft. The hospital has an additional floor area of 11,00,000 sq. ft. There is an average of 2000 outpatients per day and 130 inpatients per day. The Amrita School of Medicine has achieved academic recognition from both the community and the educational fraternity as an institution providing world-class medical training as well as a training for life that is rooted in core human values.
