Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, Coimbatore, also known as Amrita University, is a multi-campus and multi-disciplinary teaching and research university. It has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as a grade ‘A’ institute. Amrita University offers education to large numbers of students through its several campuses spread across South India. University has developed international collaborations with reputed foreign Universities/institutes.
In 2005, it signed the landmark Indo-US agreement, marking the beginning of an era of collaboration with leading international universities and institutions. Amrita has led a consortium of Indian organizations including the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST).The schools under this university are Ayurveda, Medicine, Dentistry, Biotechnology, Nursing, School of Pharmacy, Engineering, Business, Arts & Sciences, Education, Communication,Social Work.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has five campuses, with the headquarters in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It has four other campuses, namely Amritapuri and Kochi campuses in Kerala and Bangalore and Mysore Campuses in Karnataka. The university is also planning to open up new campuses in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Hyderabad & Vishakapatnam (Vizag) Andhra Pradesh and one in New Delhi.
The sprawling 400-acre campus is often likened to an oasis in a desert. Massive tree-planting and forestation activities undertaken over the past decade have converted the once-barren land into a lush green and beautiful place. Schools of Engineering and Business in addition to Departments of Social Work and Communication are located on located on this campus.Amrita University can be traced when a School of Engineering was started in an obscure village named Ettimadai, at the foothills of Bouluvanpatty ranges of the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu.
