The College is very good.
Tell us about your college/ institute? : Initially known as National Institute of Management, Army Institute of Management is a renowned institute in the army circle. I have chosen this institute because it is under Army Flagship and it has a course fee of only 2.5 lakhs. One of the unique features of this institute is that students from over 22-25 states come to study here. This year there are students from 23 states. It has got a diversified culture, which helps the students to sustain later in any part of India. Apart from that the institute has very strong alumni who are placed all over India as well as in several other countries. Approved by B-School of AICTE and is affiliated to WBUT, Kolkata the institute has been established by the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) in July 1997. It has a fully residential, eco-friendly, campus. It has a cosmopolitan student profile with batch strength of around 120 students. It has 80% army wards and 20% general wards. The college offers two year fulltime course on Master of Business Administration. It is ranked as the 44th B-School in India. It is No.1 in India in terms of ROI (BusinessWorld). It is ranked in “A+” Category as per B-School Survey 2009 by Business India and graded as ‘A’ by Business India – 2007. It has also been ranked 44th Best B-school in India by Business World magazine – 2007.
Which other colleges/institutes did you consider after clearing your exams? : College takes admission only through CAT. I have filled the forms of Lucknow University, Indian institute of Finance (New Delhi), BHU, Army Institute of Management and Tech(Noida).
What is the best thing about your college/ institute? : The best thing about our college is that management and student coordination are on equal par. There are student bodies who take part in administration. Infact, MBA colleges should have students point of view.
In which areas do you want your college/institute to improve? : Infrastructure needs improvement. There is a need of auditorium. The auditorium which is used by the students at present is the Fort William Auditorium, which is a secure place, where outsiders are not allowed without invitation. It would also have been better if students are provided with single room. Now a room is shared by 2/3 people. But it is fully furnished and is big enough. AIM is coming with a new campus in the Rajarhat Area in Kolkata, which is expected to fulfill all the needs.
What kind of infrastructure is already there in your campus and what is missing? (eg. library facility, study tour, canteen facility, laboratory, sports etc : Our college has a 4-storey building- Separate Girls Hostel (fully furnished) Separate Boys Hostel(fully furnished) Library facilities: It has a full-size AC Library which is loaded with gallons of books. It contains over 10,000 mgmt books and 400+ fiction, novels and magazines. There are also a wide range of Business and general newspapers. 1:6 ratio magazines and journals are taken. Review of RBI, CMI, FICCI are also available in the library. Regular updates are done. Study tour: AIM has university based structure and so it conducts no study tour. But we want study tour and industrial tours. Canteen facility: It has high-quality canteen. Mess which is fully AC and it serves normal meals. Cafeteria (for snacks and drinks) The food of cafeteria is little bit expensive. But the interesting part is that even at 2’o clock at night the cafeteria remains open. But the girls are not allowed after 10pm. It should be made open for both boys and girls. Other campuses like Symbiosis and IIM’s allow both genders. There should not be any demarcation. Canteen menu should be improved. Computer Labs: 4 Computer labs. There is broadband LAN connection in these labs. The labs are fully A.C consisting of 120 workstations. Ratio- Student:Machine- 1:2 Students need WI FI. But cannot get Wi Fi facility because its an army campus and security reasons doesn’t permit Wi Fi. Sports: The college has everything. There are tennis ball court, volley ball court, basket ball court and also playground where students play cricket, badminton. There are also indoor games like tt and carom. But it cannot be compared with IIM because we do not have that much budget like IIM. We have Gymnasium for both boys and girls.
Is your college / institute accredited by any national body? : No
How is the placement for your college/institute? Do you have an active placement cell? : The placement cell of our institute is very active. It consists of one Placement Officer + one Placement coordinator Faculty+ two Student representatives for placements + placement team. Placement should start little earlier by September and we would like to get more foreign companies, college authority should give emphasis on international placements.
Would you recommend your college/institute to other students? : Yes, nowadays money is becoming a major factor in MBA and AIM is considered best in terms of ROI. It also has good core as well as visiting faculty. The management students should take admission in this college.
