Aronui Technical Training Centre (Aronui) was established in 1979. The centre has grown significantly throughout the North Island and it was registered and accredited by New Zealand Qualifications Authority. Aronui was initially set-up as a voluntary (non-funded) education provider to serve the needs of the local communities in South Auckland, in particular the services were targeted at ‘at risk’ youth who had fallen through the gaps in the state school system.
Aronui Technical Training Centre became government-funded in recognition of the needs the programmes were meeting for Maori and other ethnicities. These voluntary programmes evolved into mainstream foundation/bridging programmes in trade industries - carpentry, motor mechanics, cookery, horticulture, agriculture, marine farming etc.
Aronui became an NZQA registered and accredited private training establishment to provide its students with nationally recognised qualifications. Aronui is currently offering new programmes in areas such as in Horticulture Level 4, Computing, Multimedia, Business and Information Technology, Hairdressing, Carpentry, Maori Health, Carving and Raranga (Weaving).
