Bapatla Engineering College was established in 1981. The college was initially affiliated to Andhra University and later to Nagarjuna University from 1984 onwards. Bapatla Engineering College (Autonomous) is one of the seven educational Institutions founded and run by Bapatla Education Society. The society was established in the year 1962 registered under societies act XXI of 1860 with the objectives to fund and run the educational & cultural Institutions.
The Institution of Engineers (India) accredited 8 B. Tech. programs offered by the college based on the recommendations of the 6-member subcommittee of senior Professors from IISc, Bangalore constituted by it. The college is selected as a Network Institute for the Technical Education Quality Improvement program (TEQIP) of the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the World bank.
The main aim of the college is to impart the quality education on par with global standards to the students from all over India and in particular those from the local and rural areas. To continuously try to maintain high standards so as to make them technologically competent and ethically strong individuals who shall be able to improve the quality of life and economy of the country.

The college is situated a little away from the din and bustle of Bapatla, a medium size town with a historic and hoary past, about 75 km. south of Vijayawada on Chennai - Vijayawada rail route.
