Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET), Birbhum established in 1999 by ICARE Birbhum under the chairmanship of Sri Somnath Chatterjee, honourable Speaker of the fourteenth Loksabha, BIET started functioning under the chairmanship of legendary indologist Professor Ramaranjan Mukherji, presently member, Central Advisory Board of Education, Govt. of India, former Chancellor of Tirupati University and former Vice Chancellor of Burdwan & Rabindra Bharati Universities and former President of Association of Indian universities.

The main aim of the institute is to impart quality professional/technical education to students inculcating in them national/global perspective, leadership attitude, entrepreneurship, co-operative sprit, cultured outlook, ethical values, social responsibilities and healthy habits so as to contribute to the technological, economical and social development of the region, the state and the country and to create an ambience of excellence, inspiring value based education research and development.

Situated at the sprawling picturesque techno-complex of 30 acres at Suri, BIET emerged as the pioneer Engineering institute in Birbhum. It is proud to receive aids from the government of West Bengal , Birbhum Zilla Parishad, West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL), and M.P.L.A.D. scheme for the development of the infrastructure and the campus.
