Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Srinagar was established in 2009 and formerly known as the Central University of Jammu and Kashmir. The objectives of Central University of Kashmir are to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as the university may deem fit, to make special provisions for integrated courses in humanities, social sciences, science and technology in its educational programmes and to take appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teaching - learning process and inter-disciplinary studies and research.
The mission of the university is to contribute to the educational, cultural, economic & social advancement of people providing high quality educational programmes leading to bachelors, masters, and professional and doctorate degrees as well as to address the cultural, economic, educational, environmental, health and social needs of the region and nation at large. Their goal is to educate and train manpower for the development of the country, to establish linkages with industries for the promotion of science and technology.

The campus of the university is located at Sonwar (near G.B.Pant Hospital) on the National Highway at a distance of 300 kilometers from Jammu. The Transit Campus of the University is located at a distance 9 kilometers from Srinagar International Airport.

The training & placement cell of the university aims at making available quality placement opportunities for students and at maintaining linkages with industry and research organizations. The cell is entrusted with activities to be organized throughout the year in order to prepare the students for campus selection programmes. It strives at providing supportive environment to the latest management education offered by the department for raising social consciousness and personality development.
The cell develop personality of the students by imparting the need-based training for improving their in the corporate sector.
The MBA program has been designed for talented professionals wishing to develop their knowledge of management. To be taught through a mixture of interactive seminars, lectures, case studies and group work, the program will provide a comprehensive grounding in business fundamentals. To infuse innovativeness in the design of the program, focus will be on areas of particular interest, for example Finance, Strategy, Marketing, Human Resources Event Management , Entrepreneurship etc , through careful selection of the varied range of electives, consulting projects and special interest groups. Group project work will be an important collaborative work as this is where classroom learning meets practical application. Consulting with both local and international companies will be arranged so that the students gain a unique insight into real-life business issues. Liaison with national and international companies will be fostered to harness decent placements for the pass outs. The Program will be launched by the University in the academic year 2010-11. The admission will be based upon the performance of the students in the Entrance Test, followed by group discussion and personal interview.
This program has been designed to provide industrial perspective on IT with focus on distributed real time systems, software-engineering for embedded systems, wireless and wired real-time communication systems, IT security in embedded systems, real-time image processing and sensor fusion, modern control approaches, industrial development processes and strategies. Special emphasis will be on hands-on experiences by participating in research projects. As envisaged in the Central Universities Act 2009, collaboration of other established Central Universities will be sought for running the program. Although the IT industry in the State is not well developed but it has a tremendous potential of growth. The geo-climatic condition offers an ideal location for setting up the IT industry. The development of this industry would help the State economy to solve the current problems of unemployment, weak industrial base, poor accessibility and small market. Presently the growing telecommunication and banking sector of the State can act as placement quarter for the graduates of the program. The Program will be offered from 2010-11 academic year and the admission will be based upon the performance of the students in the Entrance Test conducted by the University.
Postgraduate program in English Language and Literature has been designed for those who have the love for the subject and want to learn more. Further this program will be a preparation for further postgraduate qualifications such as the PhD., but for many people the choice to take such a discipline may act as an opportunity to study in further detail the areas of English Literature that have interested them the most. Graduates with an MA in English Language and Literature will be highly skilled in research competencies, possessing a range of both subject-specific and transferable skills of analysis, argument, and research. Studying a postgraduate program in English Literature provides evidence of sensitivity to language, the capacity for independent thought, strong personal motivation and the ability to synthesize both complex and wide-ranging kinds of information.
