Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur is in Tiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu. It is the only central university in Tamil Nadu. It was established by act of parliament #25 of 2009-03-20. B. P. Sanjay is the Vice-Chancellor.

Integrated programmes for plus two level admission
Master's programmes as is prevalent in many universities now (with focus on social sciences and humanities, basic and applied sciences, and mathematics and computer sciences). Initially Tamil, History, Sociology, Economics, and English are visualized and with the consolidation of laboratory and equipment etc., science and technology courses will be introduced.
Post graduate Diploma programmes (with focus on finishing school skills, employment enhancement courses, community orientation and retail trade for management courses).
MPhil and PhD programmes with areas that takes into account core faculty resources and taking advantage of institutions' resources such as MIDS, IIT, CSCS, Kalpakkam, CDS, Thiruvananthapuram with possibility of sending the scholars for course work in other central universities on a credit transfer basis.
