Centre for Distance Education, S.N.D.T. Women's University, Mumbai was established in 1979. The University shifted itself to dual mode of education-face to face as well as distance mode mainly to empower women through higher education. The CDE is offering several certificate /diploma /degree /post-graduate courses in various disciplines to thousands of girls/housewives/working women who could not complete their education (not even SSC/HSC), but are strongly motivated to upgrade their educational and /or professional qualifications. In last 33 years, more than 3 lakhs women are benefitted by this facility and improved their careers in life.
The goal of the university was to provide opportunities of L3 education (Life Long Learning) to working women for upgrading educational/professional qualifications and to provide education to those women who cannot attend the college due to various circumstances.
