Cranfield University established in 1946 as College of Aeronautics. In 1969, the College of Aeronautics became the  Cranfield Institute of Technology incorporated by Royal Charter with full degree-awarding powers and new departments were set up to cover the work in the new subject areas, such as the Cranfield School of Management.


An academic partnership with the Defence College of Management and Technology at Shrivenham in Wiltshire in the 2008 Financial Times rankings, clients rated Cranfield’s School of Management as the UK’s Number One Business School for customised executive development.


Campus of Cranfield University –


It has two campuses, one in Bedfordshire (Cranfield) and one in Wiltshire (Shrivenham).


  • Cranfield campusin Bedfordshire is home to our School of Applied Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Management and Cranfield Health.  Students will find a general store, a post office, a bank and a petrol station all on the campus.
  • Shrivenham Campus (Wiltshire) is home to the Cranfield Defence and Security (Formerly known as the Defence College of Management and Technology).  The village is six miles from the town of Swindon, which has shopping, sport and leisure facilities, and 22 miles from Oxford.
