Department of Architecture and Planning was established in 1956, imparts high quality education in the professional fields of Architecture and Planning. Master's program in architecture was started in the late sixties, followed by Master's degree in Urban and Rural Planning. Special emphasis is now being laid on integrating practical experience of building construction with the core curriculum. Emphasis is also being laid on research and about a dozen students are pursuing their Ph.D. programs. Besides this, 23 research papers were published in conferences and journals.
The department also provides consultancy services to various government and non-government agencies, eight consultancy projects were running in 2004-05. The department has been selected as one of the seven National Resource Institutes under the NPCBAERM to train architects in Earthquake Resistant Design and Construction and a sum of Rs. 30.96 lacs has been allocated to the department for this purpose. Two training courses were held in 2004-05.
