Design and Arts College of New Zealand (D&A) is the South Island’s only independent tertiary institute dedicated to design and arts education. D&A is government funded (TEC) and registered (NZQA) and offers qualifications over nine courses. D&A mission to enrol students in tertiary education who show aptitude, potential and commitment to study in the design and arts fields and are attracted to a mix of theoretical and studio-based learning. D&A is dedicated to meeting individual student needs.
D&A courses are designed and taught by industry professionals, to ensure that students succeed in the creative industries. The college is one of the few design and arts institutes to place an emphasis on real world scenarios in its education and training, through design briefs, internships and work experience. D&A’s integrated approach to design and arts education ensures students get a well-balanced technical, academic and creative education with a strong practical focus.

D&A provides internships, work experience or 'live' brief opportunities for students annually, which leads to important industry contacts or full-time employment outcomes.D&A has a work placement service dedicated to providing students with career guidance as well as employment assistance, and a business studies component is included in each course. D&A's Industry and Student Liaison officer critiques CVs, cover letters, conducts mock interviews and profiles opportunities weekly on the D&A website.
