Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada Department of Tourism Administration, Aurangabad was established in 1990. The idea of management studies in the field of tourism was first conceived during the visit of Dr. T. M. U. Driscoll of the Irish Tourist Board and Dr. Mcintosh, Professor of Tourism Michigan University. They both suggested an autonomous Institute to book after the Management of Tourism.
The master’s course in Tourism studies was first established in the University in 1992 directly by Government of India through Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel management. One batch passed out and the course stopped. Later on during the renaming of the University as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University the State Government decided to reintroduce the department due to the vast tourism potential in and around Aurangabad.
