English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad is a central
university offering foreign language courses. EFLU was earlier known
as Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) which was set up in the year 1958 . EFLU was
created by the Central Government to improve the standards of the
teaching of English and foreign languages in the country. The
University's main campus is located in Hyderabad apart from two more
campuses operational at Lucknow and Shillong.
Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages provides
education in the field of English and foreign languages and their
literatures. Apart from this, the University takes care of organisation
research, training teachers, production of teaching materials, and
extension services, to help improve the standards of the teaching of
English and Foreign Languages in India. Cultural studies course with an
M.A in particular subjects was first of all started at the EFLU. The
University offers M.Phil and Ph.D. in a number of disciplines including
Linguistics, Literature, Cultural Studies, European Studies and
Language Studies that minimize the disciplinary lines between
Sociology, Film Studies, Anthropology, History, Literature etc.
Facilities :-
The CIEFL has established hostels for accommodating the regular
students (Men and Women). Hostel Rooms are allotted on a sharing basis
only to outstation participant registered for a ‘full time’ programme
on the campus. Other facilities of the University include Academic
block, Library, Health Centre and Staff quarters. The University also
houses a Multimedia Digital Language Laboratory for the participants
with several computers and state-of-the-art language learning software.
