PGDM-DS PROGRAMME DESIGN OBJECTIVES: The programme aims at o building a cadre of new generation development professionals with required knowledge, competence, orientation and values o transferring the expertise and rich experience of EDI for the promotion of solutions in the areas of Microenterprise, Micro finance, Livelihood promotion, Women entrepreneurship, Group entrepreneurship, Social Enterprises and Corporate Social Responsibility o offering rewarding careers in action around Overall economic development with inclusive growth Sustainable and environment friendly solutions Governance Use of technology for development DESIGN: PGDM-DS design is based on: o Needs/Problems = Opportunities o Research, Careful analysis and Assessment = Project Ideas o I Can/We Can PEDAGOGY: A learner centric pedagogy is built around experiential immersion, critical reflection, workshops, exposure to culture through literature, films and field visits supported by lectures, cases and first hand research experience & project development, taking a student through the following: o knowledge of self o knowledge of society o knowledge of action and o knowledge of managing action END-PRODUCT The end-product, PGDM-DS graduate, will come out as a development professional with entrepreneurial drive, management training, capacity to work across sectors/thematic areas with compassion and confidence to convert ideas into action. Fees - Fees for the two-year, full-time, residential course that includes cost of tuition, reading material, library and computer facilities, study visits, alumni association membership and students' activities fee is Rs. 4,85,000/-. It also includes caution money deposit of Rs.10,000/-, which does not accrue any interest, and will be refunded on successful completion of the course. The fees will be payable in six installments over two years period. Hostel charges will be Rs.50,000/- per year (AC on Twin-sharing basis). Mess charges will be as per the rates decided by the Institute. The PGDM-Business Entrepreneurship programme offers competency-based training that is targeted at: Graduates who intend to launch and manage business units, Family businesses intending to develop their potential successors or associates with graduation background, in professional skills over a relatively shorter duration, Business firms who would like to sponsor their graduate employees with a view to reducing their dependency on employment and/or encouraging them to form a strong ancillary base, with the objective to: develop them as entrepreneurs (New Enterprise Creation, Agri-Entrepreneurship, Services Management) or Develop their capabilities to join and manage family business (Management of Family Business). Students appearing for CAT, MAT or XAT examinations for securing admission in management and non-management institutions, may now also opt for EDI’s Post Graduate Programme. The PGDM course offers four specialization options : New Enterprise Creation The objective of this stream is to provide comprehensive knowledge and develop competencies to start own independent business. This stream will be useful for those who want to launch their own business, wish to become micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) consultant, researcher, counsellor or teacher-trainer with specialised post-graduate qualification. Family Business Management This stream is designed for students interested in the issues, problems and unique concerns of family business involvement and management. The course will draw heavily on the personal experience of students in the class. Cases, videos, readings and lectures from guest faculty will focus on critical aspects of family business management. Agri-Entrepreneurship Amidst the changing paradigms and demanding global structure, India, in order to remain a front-runner needs to primarily focus on the agriculture sector, the backbone of the economy. This specialisation will develop agri-preneurs with distinct traits and skills to exploit opportunities galore in the field of agriculture. Among the various strategies to promote planned growth in this sector, focus on promoting viable enterprises will certainly help exploit its operational efficiency to the hilt. Services Management The objective is to facilitate conceptual understanding of the fast emerging service sector and its significance to the economy. The stream provides an in-depth analysis of the environment that leads to identification of opportunities in the service sector. Students will be able to benefit from such opportunities and create and manage new ventures in the sector. The focus will also be on customer relationship as a new management tool for creating sustainable competitive advantage and planning, designing and managing retail business formats. The country needs entrepreneurs to lead the economic development and opportunities for job creation; it is prudent that there are structured academic programs of stature to create scholars and thought leaders in entrepreneurship education and research. EDI, therefore, proposes distinguished 'Fellow Programme in Management' with emphasis on Entrepreneurship. The programme intends at contributing to the field of knowledge in management & entrepreneurship and extending the same to a chosen field. Accordingly, FPM proposes of two phases over four years. The first phase of the programme would comprise course-work involving Fellow programme level courses followed by a comprehensive qualifying examination while the second phase would consist of Thesis work involving preparation of a Thesis proposal, conducting research stated in the proposal, Thesis development and its examination. However, The Institute would adhere to the norms set by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi for FPM. The course will be a premier source of rigorous and inter-disciplinary research in major areas of Entrepreneurship & Management like, Entrepreneurship Education and Research; Innovation, Incubation, Clusters and Technology Entrepreneurship; Social Entrepreneurship; Corporate Entrepreneurship; Entrepreneurial Finance and Control; Entrepreneurial Marketing; Organisation Behaviour and Human Resources; Minority, Tribal and Dalit Entrepreneurship; Enterprise Creation and Growth; Family Business Management; Law, Policy and Governance; International Entrepreneurship and Women Entrepreneurship, etc. The FPM at EDI aims at preparing exceptional scholars who will address the policy and practices, challenges associated with management and entrepreneurship. The programme will be offered with following broader objectives: To groom researchers and make them competent and innovative inter-disciplinary high calibre scholars and educators in various facets of management and entrepreneurship; To investigate synergy between theory and practice of entrepreneurship as relevant to the context; and accordingly strengthen entrepreneurship education and research ecosystem in the country. To motivate researchers in conducting theoretical and empirical studies leading to policy papers and publications in scholarly journals/ books.
