Founded in 1956 as an intermediate college, Government Meera Girls College grew quickly into a multi-faculty degree college in 1959 and eventually acquired the status of a post graduate college in 1977. Affiliated to Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, it offers multi-faculty graduate courses in 24 disciplines and postgraduate courses in 24 disciplines and postgraduate studies in 13 subjects.
This college is a multi-faculty postgraduate college for women, located in the historic city of Udaipur known for its chivalry spirituality and scenic splendors. The college, with an enrolment of 4002 students, has the glory and honour of being the first and the largest government postgraduate institution for women of the state of Rajasthan. It is named after Meera, a princess-turned-saint-poet of the erstwhile princely state of Mewar, an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna.
The primary objectives of the college are to provide young women with equal opportunities and facilities for their all round development leading to self-actualization; to help them grow into responsible citizens with a secular and broadened outlook; and to impart them adequate knowledge and skills for securing suitable employment.Extra curricular and co-curricular activities are a regular feature of the college. The students participate actively and enthusiastically in various cultural, literary and sports competitions, and are seriously and zealously involved in National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, or Range ring according to their inclinations.
