Government Victoria College, Palakkad was established in 1866. The college is affiliated to the University of Calicut and has been recognized under Sn.2(f) by UGC (Vide. UGC Act 1966). The college is one of the few colleges in Kerala with a tradition that is not only hoary but also rich and varied. It has established itself as one of the most accepted centers of higher learning in the state. Today the Government Victoria College occupies a peak of prominence among the cultural landmarks of this scenic district, if not of Kerala.
Government Victoria College has fourteen departments, staff strength of 98(including 24 guest lecturers) and 1750 students. Of the fourteen departments, ten are postgraduate departments. The post graduate department of Zoology has been recognized as a research department.

Career Guidance Centre at Govt. Victoria College, Palakkad was started in 1998 – 99 with the intention of giving right guidance to youngsters to have a proper perspective of their career. This Centre provides information on various professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Paramedical Courses, Education, Management, Law and Agriculture. This Centre also provides latest information on employment opportunities at the State Govt. / Central Govt. / Private sector levels. Information is furnished on employment opportunities abroad also.
