Haldia Institute of Technology (HIT), Midnapore is the first govt, aided private initiated engineering Institute in West Bengal and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). The Institute also enjoys accreditation status by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), Govt, of India of depts. And HIT is an ISO 9001: 2000 & 14001: 2004 Certified Institute. The Institute is one of the recipient of financial assistance from World Bank, through Technical Education Quality Improvement (TEQIP) for Academic Excellence.
The institute is selected by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt, of India for a center of excellence in value-added Petroleum Engineering and petrochemicals under its Mission REACH program through TIFAC in collaboration with IOC, Haldia and HPL, Haldia. An Industry-Institute Partnership Cell (UPC) has been set up for better interaction between the Institute and Industries for mutual benefits and co-operative research for greater competitiveness in the local and global markets. Campus :- The Institute is in an enclave campus of 49 acres of land having an Administrative Block along with 9 Academic Blocks with modern facilities like Departmental Store, Medical Store, Restaurant, Post Office, Bank etc. The Campus is well surrounded by road with a grant exposure of green environment all though and equipped with its own electrical substation having distributing capacity of 500 KVA power supply. Emergency power supply is available through the Institutes own DG power supply to academic building, hostels and quarters & Campus Wide Network with Leased Line thought the Student Hostels, Faculty Quarters etc.. Placement Cell :- Haldia Institute of Technology is a major hunting ground for bright, energetic fresher for a variety of companies. While most of them, like Cognizant Technology Solutions, Accenture and Wipro, are well known Multinationals with offices in various parts of the world, local offices of industrial giants like Haldia Petrochemicals Limited and Indian Oil Corporation also recruit HIT students into their ranks. Students of the institute are provided with ample support throughout the year in order to prepare for on-coming campus recruitment drives by various companies. The Department of Management and Social Sciences also conducts round-the-semester Personality Development and Aptitude/Reasoning Test sessions for this purpose. These highly motivating classes are taught by experts from various companies, like Interactive Learning Services (Kolkata) and Globsyn.
Further, many "HITans" proceed to pursue their higher studies after HIT. Students have gained places in premiere institutes like the IITs and IISC (Bangalore) in India, and New York University (US) abroad. The Training and Placement Office regularly holds meetings with the representatives of foreign institutes, e.g. the University of Sussex, to chalk out new higher education avenues for the students to take.
