Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur was established in 1978. The University is an Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) accredited and ISO 9001:2000 certified university. It is University Grant Commission (UGC) approved and National Board of Accreditation (NBA) accredited leading hill agricultural university of India, known for innovations in transforming farming in Himachal Pradesh.
The university is the developed shape of College of Agriculture which was established in 1966. A number of improved varieties of different crops are credited to the university.
