Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI),Mumbai, is a prestigious Indian deemed university, which unifies ten Constituent Institutions, 4 premier centers and 6 premier autonomous institutes, each with a well established history of excellence, under a single research-driven framework. It is named after the late Indian physicist Homi J. Bhabha. The HRD Ministry of the government of India declared Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) a deemed to be University along with ten Constituent Institutions (CIs). Prime minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, announced the approval of the government of India for setting up of HBNI in 2005.
HBNI and its ten CI's are among the very few institutions of excellence chosen by the Parliament of India to be kept out of the purview of reservations in the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Bill, 2006, which increases the reserved seats to 49.5 per cent in prestigious educational institutes like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs),Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs),Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is a premier research and development centre of the Department of Atomic Energy, located at Trombay, Mumbai. It was set up in the year 1954 as Atomic Energy Establishment Trombay (AEET) with Dr. Homi J. Bhabha as its first Director. In 1967, it was renamed as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.
