Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-G), Guwahati established in 1994, is the sixth member of the IIT fraternity. At present the Institute has eleven departments and three inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering various programs. Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up world class infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering instruments.

IIT Guwahati's campus is spread over a sprawling 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 kms. from the heart of the city. With the majestic Brahmaputra on one side and with hills and vast open spaces on others, the campus provides an ideal setting for learning.

IIT-Guwahati Entrance Exams -
Following are the entrance exams accepted by IIT-Guwahati -
IITJEE is an entrance exam conducted by Indian Institute of Technology for admission to undergraduate courses in fifteen IITs.
GATE is an entrance exam conducted by Indian Institute of Technology for admission to postgraduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarships/ assistantships in engineering colleges/institutes.
JAM is an entrance exam conducted by Indian Institute of Technology for admission to M.Sc. and other post-B.Sc. programmes at the IITs.
Placements in IIT-Guwahati -
The training and placement cell of the Institute centrally handles all aspects of campus placements for the graduating students of all departments. The T&P cell is well equipped with excellent infrastructure to support each and every stage of the placement processes. The T&P staff members assist in arranging pre-placement talks, written tests, group discussions and interviews etc. are made as per the requirements of the organizations.
