Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is one of the premier
engineering institutes of the country. IIT Guwahati was established in
1994 as the sixth member of the IIT fraternity. The institute commenced
its academic programs in 1995.
The establishment of IIT Guwahati has given the much-needed impetus to technical education in the northeastern region of India. IIT Guwahati's campus is spread over a sprawling 285 hectares on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra. Within a short span of time the institutes has earned a number of accolades, nationally and internationally. Facilities The Central Library is one of the most important and well known facilities of the Institute. As per the recent records, the library has 96,000 volumes, including textbooks, reference books, conference proceedings, back volumes, standards, and non-book material such as CD-ROMs, audio tapes and video tapes, slides.
