Jadavpur University (JU), Kolkata was established in 1955. The university is an educational and research institution in India. Jadavpur University is at present an internationally recognized premier university of the country and it has been accorded the highest grading and rated as a "Five Star University" in India by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Their mission is to impart training to Indian students in the appropriate technology so that the country could produce indigenous consumable materials.
The University wishes to grow further as a diverse and socially responsible learning community, providing a high quality of scholarship and equal opportunity for all. Their main aim is to highest standards of excellence in teaching, research, creative expression and service to the community and advanced learning as a humanizing social practice rather than as a competitive exercise.

The main campus stands on a sprawling 58 acres on Raja S.C. Mullik Road - 8 km by local rail from Sealdah Railway Station; 15 km. by road from Howrah Station and 25 km from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and 3 km by road from Metro Railway (urban speed transport system) Station at Tollygunge.The University has a second campus of 26 acres at Salt Lake which also is well connected from the major terminal points.
