Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam was established in 1983. It has played a significant role in imparting education in the state of Kerala. The university enrolls thousands of students every year to its graduate, post graduate and doctorate programs. It has been accredited with B+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The university has more than 180 affiliated colleges spread over five districts in Central Kerala.
Mahatma Gandhi University envisions championing the cause of higher education in the country by catering to the scholastic, expertise and developmental needs of the individual, the society and the industry through the creation of a critical knowledge base with well-defined means for its dissemination and extension for the society’s sustained and inclusive growth.

The University has a sprawling 110 acre main Campus in Athirampuzha, a hamlet 13 Kms. off Kottayam town. Apart from this, the University has 8 Satellite Campuses at Pullarikunnu, Soorya Kalady Hills, Nattasserry, Puthuppally, Gandhinagar and Cheruvandoor in Kottayam, Thodupuzha and Nedumkandam in Idukki District and Chuttippara in Pathanamthitta District.
