Mangalore University, Konaje was established in 1980. It grew out of a modest post-graduate centre of the University of Mysore.It is an accredited at the 4 Star levels by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) University. The University is a major centre for the study of ecology and environment. The University has received major grants from the UGC, DST, Govt. of Karnataka, Department of Ocean Development, Department of Electronics, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Space, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Atomic Energy and other nodal agencies.
The Mangalore University was the first to start undergraduate programs such as Hotel Management, Human Resource Development, Fashion Design and Yogic Sciences. The University is ranked 24 among top 50 Universities in terms of publication output. It has taken steps to establish contacts through exchange of scholars and students with universities in USA, UK, Finland, Japan, Norway, Germany, Spain and other countries. All the courses provided by the university have attracted students from other parts of the country and abroad. They collaborate with several premier national and international institutions.
