National Institute of Technology Calicut or NITC in the city of Kozhikode (Calicut) in Kerala, India is a federally funded technical university established by an act of the Indian Parliament. It was formerly known as Calicut Regional Engineering College (CREC).
It is one of the twenty National Institutes of Technology - one in each major state of India - established by the Government of India for fostering national integration by imparting technical education to students from all over the country. Set in a picturesque landscape at the foothills of the Western Ghats, National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is located about 22 kilometers north-east of Calicut City. The Institute is a residential institution and all students are normally required to stay in the Hostels. There are totally eleven hostels including two PG hostels and two ladies hostels. Nearly 2000 inmates are being accomodated in the NITC hostels. Each hostel runs its own mess and apart from these individual there is a mini canteen available in the hostel premises. Institute Infrastructure: The Institute has a well equipped library, a computer centre, lecture hall complex, various laboratories in different departments, workshops, hostels for accommodating about 2000 students, health care centre, and adequate facilities for sports, games and co-curricular activities. The institute has a guest house, with A/C and Non A/C rooms, for the guests of the institute, including alumni and parents of the students. To provide service to the residents, the campus also accommodates a branch of State Bank of India, Post Office, Canteen & Co-operative Store. The campus is fully of Internet connected with fibre optic gigabyte backbone network and a wireless LAN. The Internet connectivity is of 10Mbps or 1MB/Sec bandwidth. The NITC web server and mail server are high performance, dual processor servers. The wireless LAN covers the entire campus with IEEE 802.11B and 802.11G standards. All faculty and students are provided with web mail and browsing facilities. Institute Facilities Computer Networking Centre (CNC) , Education Technology & Library (ETL), Central Library ,Digital Library, Institute Computer Center, Intercom and Cable TV facility, Centre for Testing and Certification, Centre for Value Education (CVE), There are eleven halls of residences including the two hostels for girl students (with a capacity to accommodate 330) and the total capacity is around 2200., Physical Education and Sports, National Service Scheme , Health Facility , Banking and Postal Facility , Mobile Communication Services , Board of student and co curricular activities.
