ABOUT

Praxis aims to produce "industry-ready" graduates equipped to meet global business needs. The B school provides high-quality management education through classroom training as well as intensive interaction and collaboration with the industry.

In order to ensure academic excellence, Praxis had sought academic inputs from XLRI. The nature of the collaboration included preparation of the curriculum and faculty exchange. A significant number of courses have been taught by eminent faculty from XLRI.

Infrastructure/ Teaching Facilities

A fully wired Praxis Business School campus comprises lecture theatres and classrooms in the academic block and single-room accommodation in the residential block. The hostel has a mess hall, a recreation room, gym and a night canteen. In additional to a well stocked physical library, students have access to online resources like EBSCO and CMIE databases.

Eighty percent of the knowledge and skill acquisition in a B-School happens, paradoxically, outside the classroom - at heated discussions in the cafeteria, while collaborating on group assignments, in the hostel rooms and of course in the library. Praxis extends this idea through KK - the Kollaborative Klassroom - an extension of the traditional learning environment into the digital domain. KK is a Web 2.0 based social network that allows students and faculty to interact and exchange thoughts and ideas in a manner and at a pace that they are comfortable with. KK can be accessed at http://kk.praxis.ac.in or through the Praxis Live link on the Praxis website.

Featured Faculty

The key strength of Praxis is the quality of its faculty. Praxis has opted for a mix of eminent faculty members drawn from both academia and industry. There is a strong resource-pool of visiting faculty, drawn from the academic and the corporate fields, both Indian and Global.

PGPBM is a 2 year fully residential program aimed at combining the art and science of theoretical learning with the virtues of practical training. The program at Praxis is, on the one hand, rooted in the principles of academic rigor and discipline, and, on the other, designed to offer multiple touch-points with the industry. In addition to leveraging XLRI expertise, Praxis interacts closely with industry professionals to understand their needs and to incorporate their inputs in our program design. Over and above Finance, Marketing, HR, Systems and Operations, Praxis offers specialization opportunities in areas of concentration like Retail Management and Treasury & Risk Management. The courseware for these areas of concentration are co-developed and co-delivered with industry partners. Soft-skills training, with emphasis on oral and written communication, are an integral part of each program. In addition to class-room training, the Praxis philosophy requires that there is intense industry interaction at various levels, in terms of live projects, site-visits, hands-on experience and visiting faculty lectures and workshops. Mode of Learning:- (Classroom – Full Time) Scholarships Candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC categories, girl candidates from non-metros* and servicemen or their wards are encouraged to apply. Praxis offers merit-based scholarships** of Rs. 1,00,000 (Rupees one lakh) each to selected candidates belonging to the above categories subject to the following conditions: 1.Only candidates applying in the first cycle are eligible for these scholarships 2.Candidates should be successful in getting admission to Praxis Business School. 3.Candidates must have a minimum of 75% marks in both class X & XII and a minimum of 60% marks in graduation. Candidates appearing in their final year of graduation will also be considered. *Candidates who have completed their X, XII and graduation in any city/ town other than Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, or Pune ** The scholarship will go towards payment of academic fee and will be apportioned in 4 equal instilments corresponding to the fee cycles of the institute. Pedagogy Course-ware content and delivery are linked to the micro and macro business environments around us; most quizzes, examinations are open-book and challenge the student’s ability to think and apply concepts in simulation of real-life situations. Each course requires the students to participate in projects, make presentations and solve case-study-based problems. There is a considerable amount of industry involvement in delivering course sessions. Praxis has had guest speakers and lecturers from firms like Hewlett Packard, Britannia, Tata Tea, IBM, AMI- Partners, Eveready, Tata Steel, Apollo, PwC to name a few. A student is free to chose any 7 electives, from a basket of 12 electives per trimester (4 in Marketing, 4 in Finance, 4 in HR and 4 in Operations and 4 in Information Systems) In addition to opting for one or more specializations, students are given the option of choosing areas of concentration. The philosophy behind offering these is to take the pedagogy closer to specific and real industry requirements. The curriculum is co-created and co-delivered with industry experts and has real industry intervention at various points. Praxis has identified Retail Strategy and Treasury and Risk Management as being the two areas that address immediate industry needs and these are being offered to current students. The response from the student and corporate communities has been very encouraging. Treasury and Risk Management Praxis is offering two areas of concentration- Treasury and Risk Management, in coordination with ICICI Bank. The Praxis faculty will conduct the course with specific sessions being taken by experts from ICICI Bank (this would be applicable for largely experiential elements such as Treasury Operations). As part of the curriculum, the participating students will undertake live projects and assignments with the company. Retail Strategy Management The pedagogy for the Retail Strategy Management area of concentration has evolved out of a workshop with participation from the Praxis Business School faculty and relevant experts from the industry representing organizations such as Spencer’s, Tata Steel and Starmark. It comprises lecture-sessions on retail strategy and operations aspects, requires the students opting for this concentration to experience real-life learning through field-level exposure with important retail stores and culminates in a ‘course of independent study,’ wherein the students assimilate the learning to develop and present a business plan. The courseware is co-created and co-delivered by the Praxis faculty and industry practitioners. We are co-developing the pedagogy with industry for other domains such as Outsourcing and Project Management as well - these would be offered as additional areas of concentration in subsequent years. As industry needs change, Praxis will attempt to adapt its curriculum accordingly and address the changing needs with new, relevant programs. The deadline for the second cycle of applications for Praxis Business School has been extended from 15th February 2010 to 9th March 2010.
